Trashy Moment: Pastel Lips

Y'all know I don't like to post too many Trashy Moments, mostly because I don't like to litter, but some things need to be addressed. So, apparently a memo went around that pastel lips were the new thing.  I've seen a few pictures of girls trying to get in on it, but they failed.  I just don't understand it.  I thought Whitney told us a few years back that, "Crack is Wack!" So why this random surge of pastiness.

Did I miss something?? I've seen it done right a few times in fashion mags and such, but those shots were done by professional makeup artist and photographers who can make anyone look good. They should come with a disclaimer that says, "DO NOT attempt this look at home."

I'm all for someone being unique, individual, beat your own drum and whatever, but wearing the new shade you got at the free crack giveaway is too much. Keep it classy girls.

Someone please explain this to me...

Rodarte 2010: A Space Odyssey

A high-fashion techno-thriller from design sisters Rodarte, shot by Todd Cole. This collision between  rocket science and daring visuals is an apt match for Rodarte’s spring 2010  collection—a collage of flesh-colored crochet knits, fluorescent fibres, leather  bandages and distressed plaid.

Classy Moment: Swarovski's Crystal Palace

At this year’s Milan Design Week, Swarovski commissioned five separate artists to each apply their own respective take on the famous ornamental crystal brand. Included were Tokujin Yoshioka, Gwenaël Nicolas, Vincent van Duysen, Rogier van der Heide and Yves Béhar. Not only were the pieces one of a kind, but the setting created just the right atmosphere for such works of art to be exhibited

Each artist and their creation is below...
Yves Béhar's “Amplify”.  He combined technology with the inherent qualities of Swarovski crystal to create a beautiful yet surprisingly low budget lighting arrangement. A series of paper lanterns shaped like crystals had lights refracting from a real crystals inside, casting patterns on the surface of the paper.

Vincent Van Duysen's “Frost” featured glowing beams. The surface of each beam was covered in crystals of various shapes and sizes set in a resin to keep them in place.

Tokujin Yoshioka’s “Stellar”, was a spherical installation covered with crystals and lit from within by LEDs. An accompanying glass tank in the same room featured another globe with naturally growing cyrstals.
Rogier van der Heide's "Dream Cloud" presented the fundamental features of the crystals and how they manage to spark our imagination into dreams which do become reality.

Gwenaël Nicolas presented “Sparks.” Free floating transparent balloons enclosed small, lit crystal sculptures. Gwenaël also constructed a lighted crystal rope (above) illuminating the room with an  iridescent spectrum.

Eye want Dior

Mr. Galliano pushed it to the limit with these. Dior Eyes is the first contact lense to be released by a luxury company. The lenses will create the illusion of either a golden or a black ring around the iris.

I think I'd go for the gold, it'd probably look nice around my lovely brown eyes ;). I'm just not sure about having a logo on my eye ball.

Architecture: Oh Dubai, you never let me down.

The first skyscraper for the Dubai Waterfront, the latest and biggest of the urban developments on the UAE coast, has been named The Wave Tower.  This thing is amazing! Even if you are not all that into architecture, it's sexy enough to captivate anyone's attention.

The A-Cero firm in Madrid, Spain, has designed and proposed this high-rise tower for the Dubai waterfront.

"It stands like a stylized stem with a light torsion, creating the elegant movement that characterizes the form of the shape of the building. The base has the form of a pointed arch with smooth bends, imitating the waves in the Gulf Sea...Interior sky gardens are present in all the common zones, distributed on different floors, improving the air quality and working as natural temperature regulators."

Location: Madinat Al Arab District, under development area that is expected to become the new downtown and central business district of Dubai.
Height: 92 floors, 370 meters
Materials: Double skin facade made of silk screened glass for solar control.
Uses: Commercial, offices and high end residential.

Underwater subways in Amsterdam. Well, kinda.

Attn: Chicago, Boston, NYC, and any other US city with a subway system: Amsterdam wants to show you something.

Amsterdam based design duo, Million Dollar Design, took take a deep breath and gave a facelift to one of the 30-year-old "Silver Gulls" metro trains. The design team blended illustration, photography and fashion to create a dreamy, romantic, wonder-world with some dark and slightly rough accents. Mermaids swim, an octopus hides under an umbrella and a turtle takes you on a journey into the unknown.

The subway consists of two designs. One has a predominantly green color intended to remind passengers of the deep underwater, where strange little creatures are float around. The other, purple, suggest being closer to the surface, where small fish flirt with the sunlight in the water.

Shoes x Fiber Optics = Enlightenment

Another successful integration of technology into fashion!

Italian born Francesca Castagnacci, has fueled her artistic inspiration through an awe striking fashion concept. Her latest project uses special optical fibers woven into fabrics to creating visual effects with light and dimesions. The result is creations that surprise our eyes and trigger our imagination.

The concept, known as Luminex, has been been used for quite some time by electronics-oriented industries,  yet its recent use by the textile industry brought some obviously striking results.
With designers incorporating technology into fashion, I wonder what our wardrobes will look like in 5-10 years? I personally would not wear these, but, I might use them as a really cool night light or something.
