Another TRASHY Moment: Kelis

You all know that I try to avoid littering my site with TRASH. However, sometimes mistakes some need to be made public so other do not make them in their own life. Todays's subject: Kelis.

Kelis appeared yesterday at the 1st Annual Data Awards wearing what you see below. At least the blazer was decent, and the shoes are McQueen. I will leave you to pass your own judgment.....

Dearest Kelis,
It is a common practice for anyone who will be venturing out into the public to look at themselves in the mirror before leaving the house. I highly recommend that in the future you get in a regular habit of this to prevent any further embarrassment.  That is all.
Yours truly,
Seven Halos

Annie Leibovitz Becomes the Subject in Louis Vuitton Campaign

Venturing into capturing the non-model types for its ongoing "Core Values" campaign, Louis Vuitton's latest subject is one famed for photographing models, not being one.  The famed photographer, Annie Leibovitz, is the subject in the brand's latest ads.

Joined by ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, the image was snapped in Annie’s New York studio and depicts her practicing her craft. Mikhail standing barefoot on a podium as the photographer eyes him from the floor.

According to WWD, Leibovitz hesitated at first but eventually caved on the condition that she use the hire fee to pose with someone fabulously famous (that person was Mikhail). Vuitton Communication Director, Antoine Arnault, commented on Annie's work and reason for approaching her saying,  "She's a real, pure, 100 percent artist," said Arnault. "We've always been very committed to her, to her talent."

In a previous "Core Values"ad, LV commemorated the 40th anniversary of man's conquest of the Moon. The theme- "Travel as a personal journey to a celebration of a voyage of unsurpassed significance for all mankind."

Three of the world's most recognized astronauts, Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, and Sally Ride were scouted for the ad.  LV also launched a website to coincide with the campaign. It features a teaser clip of interviews with the space travellers.

An Irregular Choice Indeed

Also in trashy news...Irregular choice.
Their shoes have always straddled the border line between totally hot and totally bla...But this time they are living up to their name- Just look at the monstrosity below that they have the nerve to call a shoe.

That is all I have to say about the complete and utter disrespect that this thing screams to all "Sneaker Pimps" of the world... I mean really, how did this get approval for mass distribution?....That is all :/

D&G's Alpine Trashy Men- RTW Fall 2010

Hello, Hello...
Ok so, although I said that would never really make a post solely about about clothes, I had to let you all know that sometimes designers do make mistakes. The latest to label to make one - Dolce and Gabbana for their Fall 2010 line.

Every so often, we are afforded the opportunity to get a little more adventurous in our winter wear.  However, there is a line at which this adventurous spirit becomes flat out, excessive. D&G decided to lean towards marshmallow silhouettes, use strictly earthy colors,  go heavy on the Nordic knits (even for the puffer jackets), adorn hats with pom-pom, throw in some Mickey Mouse and add clumps of dangly trinkets complete with a koush ball.

I mean really, who needs all this at one time? Have we reached the point where it is cool to put on every sweater, scarf, hat and coat you own to go out side?

Are we really supposed to go out in out onesie pajamas and a big dumb scarfs then call it an outfit? And what is up with the tux and over sized snowboard pant? I will refrain from commenting on the "Bad Boy for Life" throwback... :|

Maybe I'm being picky, But I just feel so let down by my beloved D&G. I'm hoping that some of the pieces will look really good by themselves. Until this is proved, I'm filing this under trashy....
Now back to your regullary scheduled programming.

Geek Chic +Female+ Chicago= Sugar Gamers!

Geek chic refers to the embracing of stereotypically unpopular "geek" characteristics such as being tech savvy, wearing “nerd” glasses, reading comic books, and playing video games. Are you a real geek? Are you proud of being a geekette? Do you believe that being a geek does not mean that you can’t be sexy and feminine at the same time?

Recently, a young, all female group in Chicago has taken control of the reigns, changing the definition of “geek” and turning it into a lifestyle of chic, intelligent, fashionable, video game playing enthusiast. They are the Sugar Gamers.

The Sugars Live a Geek Chic Lifestyle.
“My Sugar’s are REAL women. They are women that you would never expect to be serious gamers. They are Lawyers, grad students, established professionals and everything inbetween. They are beautiful, classy, intelligent, VERY social, and each has a great individual sense of style-  they can also kick your ass in Gears of War while sipping on chocolate martinis.” States Keisha Howard, Founder of Sugar Gamers.

In just four short months, the group has been recognized by major names in the fashion, entertainment, and gaming industries including Victoria Secret, which hosted the Sugar Gamer "Giving is Sexy" girls night out party at the newly opened flagship store in Chicago this past Dec. Since then, the girls have held monthly events at various venues around Chicago. The themes always center around video games and tie in elements of fashion, music, food and art.

“There girls aren’t just playing games for a hobby, they are serious gamers. They are experts in first person shooters (FPS), role playing games (RPG's), fighting games and so on. These girls are also major comic book, sci-fi, and anime enthusiast.

In addition to video game competitions and conventions, the girls are active in their community, adopting parks, organizing after school events and programs, and donating to charity.

“When I started the group, I set out to not only provide something that women can be empowered by, but also provide a outlet for them to give back. Gaming is an industry that was dominated by men, but almost half of all gamers are female. With Sugar Gamers, women can take pride in that, and bring their favorite pastime to light.”

Levi’s Pop-Up Closet...Its a Cardboard Box!

Recently Levi's came out with a new viral campaign, Levi’s Pop-Up Closet. I absolutely love when people think out of the box, pun intended.

It is amazing how some of the greatest ideas are right in front of our faces. I'm sure we all at some point have unfolded a box and flattened it. In Levi’s latest, they went viral with a project that turns a simple cardboard box into a pop-up closet. They even had stuff stored inside!

The concept comes from the Moriterbrigade agency in Belgium.

I have a promotional marketing background, so I couldn't help but be fascinated by this. I had to share it.

Kyle Bean for Hermès: Newspaper Instrument Creations

UK designer Kyle Bean has created a special series of paper covered instruments for French fashion house Hermès. Together with some old school trunks, the instruments make up the Spring 2010 Hermès window decorations.

Reminiscent of the Blueprint III cover,  Bean has covered 50 instruments in music manuscript sheets, and some suitcases in survey maps.  He teamed up with in-house Hermès designer Rebbecca Cox to also make paper fans and canopies to dress the props and products. The artwork is on display at Hermes UK retail stores now.
