Marcus Tremonto: White lights and Black paper

Marcus Tremonto. Known for his work for Kidrobot and his customized, brighter than ever Munnies, is now sharing his latest creations for Moss gallery New York, titled the “Make me” exhibition.  Marcus’s obsession with comics and popular culture in general is well known, as well as his love to combine it with strong forms and manipulated 2D and 3D images. In this exhibit, four limited edition lighting sculptures are the focus.

A few words straight from the artist mouth: “My work is illustration based in origin, with inspiration from French Pop comics of the 60′s, which so well delineated what was necessary to translate the image; the suggestion of a solid form through simple line gesture. By manipulating and exaggerating size and form, the work forces the viewer to re-examine, question and consider the surroundings in which it exists as part of the piece, much like a cell in a comic or frame that tells a story. As with all of my work I want the viewer to interact with what they are experiencing, either by movement or question, thus allowing the relationship to begin between them and the piece.

How they work: Marcus uses Electroluminescent paper, which consists of an organic material that emits photons (light) when excited by an electric current, sandwiched between two thin layers of plastic. Pretty Cool huh?

Where:  Moss gallery – New York ( 150 Greene Street New York, NY 10012)
When: September 16th – November 13th 2010.

I have been searching around for this site after I heard about them from a buddy and was thrilled when I found it after searching for long time. Being a demanding blogger, I’m cheerful to see others taking initivative and contributing to the community. I would like to comment to show my approval for your blog as it is very appleaing, and many writers do not get credit they deserve.
