Designer of the month: Shanna Gall-Boston Fashion Week

This week was fashion week here in Boston.  Among designers like Sam Mendoza, Denise Hajjar and Tra Tutti stood a new face on the scene – Shanna Gall, designer of SG Fashions.

I had the chance to interview Shanna in private after the show. Even with all the hustle and bustle going on backstage, Shanna remained cool, collected, obviously happy, and proud of her success thus far.

Our conversation was natural. We spoke as if we were friends catching up on old times. To Shanna, this night was not about marking a milestone in her career but rather a forecast of what was to come in the future, a source of motivation to keep reaching toward new heights.

Tonight’s theme was F.R.E.E Can you speak on that?

Women have played such a vital role through history. There was a time when we were, and sometimes still are, characterized and judged by our garments. Just seeing how this has transpired through the history has actually served as a form of inspiration for this collection, which is where F.R.E.E. comes in – Fashion Reminds Everyone to Evolve

You graduated in ‘06 from Fisher, what has been your keys to success thus far?

Dedication, I’m very dedicated. I’m very driven, I’m very positive. I am my own motivator and I am driven towards being successful in what I find passion in, and that is fashion design. It also helps to have a wonderful team, we all support each other.

I’m a mom as well. I have a daughter, Hannah, nine years old, and its important for me to let my daughter see how it is to be independent, strong, and strive toward your dreams.

Does Hannah have a creative side as well? I heard she made all the jewelry in tonight’s show.

Yes! She is creative in her own way. She does make jewelry, and yes, you did see a few of her pieces in the show tonight. I’m just so very proud of her.

That’s precious. So what can we expect from SG fashions in the future?

Lots of things! Keep branding the line. I have some awards shows coming up at the beginning of the year that I am working on some designs for and just continually moving forward and growing.
