Designer of the Month: Pam Sami of Accessory Freaks
Remember a few months back we introduced to you Accessory Freaks, a UK based jewelry line that mashed class and sass with a street vibe to create a unique, statement making pieces. Well, we here at Seven Halos love them and hooked up with the brand once again to bring you an in depth interview with Pam Sami, Owner and Head Designer of Accessory Freaks.
So who are the accessory freaks? Could you give the readers a brief history of your experience in the fashion industry and where the name accessory freaks came from?
Accessory Freaks is owned by me, Pam Sami. You won’t believe it but I went to university and graduated doing Biomedical Sciences ha-ha, that’s my day job. I’ve always been a fashion fanatic and loved customizing clothes and making jewellery. To be honest I don’t really have any experience of the fashion industry, the only experience I have is what I’ve picked through life. I get a lot of messages from people on Facebook and emails asking how I started up my business and they think they have to do a degree in fashion to be successful. It’s not always the case.
Accessory Freaks began from my living room, when I started making a few pieces by hand.
The name Accessory Freaks was all a bit of an accident, but a good one!! After being hassled by loads of family and
friends I started a group on Facebook called ‘for all you accessory freaks’ to showcase my creations. I invited all my friends and family to the group and got some lovely feedback and messages. It was only when I got random messages from people I didn’t even know who were from across the other side of the world who wanted to place orders that I knew there was a demand for my designs. There was no way I could make all these items by hand and keep up with orders so I decided to look into getting my designs manufactured. I experimented with various materials and decided acrylic was for me. I was goi ng crazy trying to think of a good business name, and then all of a sudden I thought, I’m an accessory freak, the groups aimed at accessory freaks…so yeah, it’s going to be called ACCESSORY FREAKS.
I always dreamed of having my own fashion line, really didn’t think it was going to happen as I never had the qualifications or any recognized experience in the fashion industry. It shows that an education in fashion is not always required.
Your pieces have a very “chic-street” feel to them. What inspired the collection?
Well I’ve always been a fan of bold statement jewellery. Something quirky that says…LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME! So really the collection was inspired by me and my imagination. I blame the monkey that lives in my cranium for providing me with such crazy ideas to be fair. He sits at the switchboard in my brain and randomly connects and disconnects leads as it suits him which leads to the random thought procedure. I’ve often woken up in the middle of a night with a random design so I always have my iPhone to hand so I can make notes and doodle. I’ve haven’t named the impostor yet, so if any of you reading this have any ideas let me know.
I personally know why the line is worth being on the radar, but let the readers know why it should be in theirs?
I don’t think there’s a brand like ours out there that makes such crazy pieces of jewellery. Our pieces are very big, bold and quirky. I’ve seen a variety of people wearing our creations so we seem to be filling the gap in the market. We have a lot more to showcase yet, your readers need to keep their eyes peeled, and we’ve got a lot of crazy creations coming
soon which you don’t want to miss.
If you had to choose one celeb in the world to wear your pieces, who would it be and why?
Oh no, one celeb! I can’t believe you are doing this to me ha-ha! Ummmm, I love so many celebs but it’s going to have to be Rihanna. She’s got to be one of my favorite female artists. Her success is mind-blowing and she is one person who can carry off any look and rock it, I love that about her. She oozes craziness as does our brand.
What fashion trend absolutely errks you? I personally have a great dislike for Uggs in any warm weather climate. (I can just imagine the horrid smell that comes from their feet when they take their shoes off.)
I agree, you CANNOT wear Uggs when it’s warm, it’s a fatal error. However we don’t get that problem in the UK as we don’t really have a summer hahahaha!! But I have to say I hate CROCS. No matter whom I see wearing them; I just can’t seem to like them.
What can we expect to see from Accessory Freaks in the future?
We will be working on some collaboration’s with other brands which we’re really looking forward to. We hope the brand continues to grow as it has been and we will be on the hunt for stockists across the globe soon. And without a doubt we’ll be continuing to expand our collection by producing more crazy designs, work on our custom online store and a few other surprises we can’t share just yet, wink wink!
And just because I have to ask, what are the chances of an Accessory Freaks x Seven Halos jewelry colab??
We’re always looking for new projects and collaborations, I’m sure we can work something out
