light sensitive, shape shifting apparel from designer Alice Zixxheddu

Light sensors embedded in apparel to dynamically shift textures and shapes

Reflecting on the modern world, where technology and nature live in a growing place of hybridization, designer Alice Zixxheddu’s collection of ‘living clothes’ sculpts a modern and relevant silhouette.

Inspired by the study of nature’s geometry such as minerals and glaciers Zixxheddu has designed garments that are virtually created around the body using 3-D software, resulting in textures and volumes previously unexplored.

Based on the idea of ‘hybridity’ – hybrid clothes for a hybrid body – the architecturally designed clothes define a new aesthetic. In addition she has incorporated technology into the clothes such as light sensors that allow ‘memory’ textiles to pop up and collapse, changing silhouette in response to light.
